Tata Sky launches Tata Sky+ HD at just Rs. 3999/

Dhiraj, whats a splitter here?
You basically need two incoming wires to the TS+/ TS+ HD STB, 2nd one is for your recording. Now the technician will either run a 2nd wire from your existing dish or use a splitter to take out two cable from the existing input cable and feed those to the STB. In my case, since we have a common dish for the apartment block, the technician had used a splitter. I was concerned about the signal quality with the splitter, but he had shown me (from the menu) the signal quality was very good and I was convinced.

One other thing as someone has already mentioned in the settings-->user settings, you have the option to reduce the time for the channel info display that comes up every time you switch to a new channel. I think the default was 5 sec (or more) and I reduced it 2 sec (as it was irritant to have that channel info display lingering for so long and blocking part of the screen).

if the content is in stereo, it can only be simulated 5.1
What channels are broadcasting in 5.1 (dolby/ dts)? Are those channels too giving stereo/ simulated audio?

The signal strength display menu is there but it is hidden. You need the secret code to view it. The guy who has installed showed me the signal strength.

Also found out that if you go to system details menu and press 0 and 1 you will unlock the menu to format the hardsisk.

And about the audio, it is just stereo through HDMI. If you connect the optical it shows as Dolby 5.1 but it is not having the actual quality of the dvd or bluray. It is just a simulated 5.1 surround (My pioneer receiver will do a better job than the tatasky box. I don't need them to do this for me).I removed the optical and changed the audio settings of the box to PCM. But my receiver showed stereo. So the signal received by the box is just stereo.

Tatasky cheated us nicely by giving us a simulated 5.1 surround(This is what i think they are doing, i am not an expert thoug).

for me it didnt downloaded i got the connection on 15th may be that was updated software which i got the first time, but theres no satellite scan in system setting so no way to check signal strength as mention by some ppl here they have that option in system setting but not me

I got the box installed yesterday and there was a download today. The download abruptly started when i was watching a programme! But the updated completed within a minute.

I can't confirm whether this fixes 5.1 thru' HDMI since i don't have an AVR yet.

This is what they installed at my place.

I have the same splitter at my Place for my TS+ box.
Reason for isntallation? No space for a second wire in the internal wiring of my Apartment.

I hope these guys dont delay this forever. I have already missed opening ceremony and today's match on HD.

BTW, someone was talking about "simulated surround". I dont think TS+HD box is capable of that, as it would mean that they need Dolby Digital Encoder(which is quite expensive, not the same as Dolby Digital Decoder).
TS folks are better off streaming the orginal DD track from the channel, rather than encode it. Besides, for encoding DD track, you need 5.1 audio channels as source.
Also, the simulated 5.1 is called as "Dolby Prologic (II/z based on your AVR). But there is no way TS+HD box will do this, and then encode to DD and then stream it to AVR.

So all in all, Its likely that the DD track provided by the channel itself is not so good.

Also, note that DD sound track for a TV programme will be very different from the Movies. The main reason being, movies are generally watched in the Theaters, hence you will have higher levels of "Dynamic Range" than the TV programmes. In other words, TV programme DD will sound "flatter" than the Movies ones.

This is what they installed at my place.

Hi, Just ordered TS HD+ yesterday.
Just wanted to know is their limit to length of the wire that they put free and after that they charge.Since the location in flat is such that I might have to ask them for wire nearly 15-20 odd mtrs from the dish. thanks

Ok, I got the Box today. Here are a few snaps of the same.

Brand New Box:

Goodbye Old Friend. You will be missed.

A few Observations :
* Brand new Menu. Looks quite good. However will take some time getting used.
* New "Plan" Menu is good. Liked it a lot more than the old one's Plan Menu.
* As everyone quoted, No DD or 5.1 Audio Via HDMI. However DD works over Co-ax.
* Nat HD 5.1 is 1 channel pushed to 5.1. Annoying audio breaks in Nat HD.
* Discovery HD is good, Even audio is quite decent.
* New Box is sleeker, but I like the old-school charm of the Old box a little bit better (Maybe I'm getting old :P )
* SD content is more or less standard. However in 720p, interlacing artefact is quite obvious in non HD Channels ( Since the TS+HD does not do a good job of de-interlacing.) Your are better off setting the Box at 1080i
* The new remote feels better in the hands than the old one. Good feedback.

Update :
PVR is Made by "Cal-Comp Electronics Thailand". While the remote is made by Philips.

Yes it was a mistake.

It was shown as 3250 by mistake in their website yesterday. Today they corrected it.

You have now to pay only 12000/- and taxes.

May be they are bundling some amount of free spectrum along with it.

If anyone want to buy please do it immediately before they realize their mistake again and make it costlier than your hdtv.
