Tata Sky launches Tata Sky+ HD at just Rs. 3999/

Is this TATA SKY HD+ is with lots of bugs / downgraded ver? i feel its a marketing gimmick as they were not able to sale their SD+ version. should i wait for Plain HD.

there are no such "major" issues; it got setup and streamlined perfectly; dolby is outputting perfectly through optical and co-axial so I dont think there is any major issue; but where is the content... lolz... we may be running blindly towards hd boxes but I think the indian market will still take 1-2 years to mature to full hd and dolby output for all channels... still the picture quality shows a marked improvement over conventional standard stb and I definitely think its worth going for....

the recording part also started functioning immediately and without any major hiccups... 600+ hours of recording on a 500gb internal hdd is definitely worth going in for...

its easy to find flaws; but as I said there is NO 1 perfect device, hardware, phone or wife... that does all... lolz...

Good one...:lol::clapping:

Can someone post pics of the TS+ HD. I would like a pic of the rear section (connections)? I have not gone through the entire thread. So if it has already been posted, please point me to it.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, its been posted before... here again for your convenience...

I will take photos if it helps in the evening.

The rear has connections for
HDMI - Video 1080i/720p and Audio PCM 2.0
Component - Video 1080i/720p
Optical - DD 5.1
Coax - DD 5.1 (not confirmed)
Composite

It also has ethernet and USB which are disabled.

All are active at the same time. For example, I have taken the video via HDMI to the UMC1 and through component to the TV. The audio I have connected via optical to UMC 1 and via composite to TV.

This enables me to view HD channels through the Home theater and normal SD channels through TV.

Re: Tata Sky HD+ Hdmi Audio Problem!

TS+ HD MUST have the DD Decoder. Why do I say that? Simply because it has a L+R connection for Composite/Component audio. So in order for audio to work for any channel broadcasting Dolby/DTS, the STB HAS to be decode the stream, flatten it to 2 channels and push it out via these cables.

Regarding PS3, not that is not the reason. Why? Find me one AVR that supports Audio processing Via HDMI, and does not support Dolby or DTS. Because I have a PS3, and I have noticed time and again that any file that has AC3 track will be decoded. However if I prefer optical out instead of HDMI, then PS3 will stream it in AC3.
But for some funny reason, PS3 will bitstream DTS tracks.

Is it technically possible? Most certainly yes. Do I think the 'TataSky + HD' set-top box has a built in Dolby Digital decoder and PCM encoder, most certainly NOT. In any case, it would make absolutely no sense to decode the 'Dolby Digital' bitstream in the cheapo set-top box instead of an AVR or other stand alone Dolby Digital decoder. In short I am quite sure that thisis not the case.

The only reason the PS3 and other Blu-ray players providethis option, is for the benefit of those who do not have AVRs that can decode the newer HD audio formats. This feature was never intended for the standard DD 5.1 audio encodings.

I can save more than 20 favourites with this box (currently saved 36)

I ordered mine at 12 noon on monday and they came installed it at 12 noon today.

I have pioneer 1020K receiver. the guy tried to use a normal RCA cable into the Coaxial slots and connected the HTB to my tv directly using HDMI. I muted my TV and my receiver did show Dolby digital as audio input which it normally showed in my tata sky HD earlier. However my side speakers were outputting voice which only my center channel should do. So i am guessing this means its not exactly 5.1, but just same sound on 5 channels...I checked this on Natgeo.

Have couple of questions:
(1) Is my setup (one single RCA from STB to Receiver Coaxial) +(Hdmi from STB directly to TV) the right combo in absence of optical cable?
(2) What is the most affordable way to get an optical cable in Bangalore?

As indicated by others in this forum, its a let down for people who have graduated from tata sky Hd to PVR in terms of 5.1 sound on HD channels

Hi, Thanks for re-assurance.. I have ordered mine yesterday. I'm hoping that I will get a call tomorrow for installation. I was worried that the box was out of stock.

With regards to your question :
1. Your setup is correct. Technically coax and Optical are identical, with respect to their capabilities, since they implement the same technology, just the physical layer varies.

Regarding NatGEO, lot of others have complained the same. Did you try Discovery HD? I believe 5.1 is proper for this channel.

This is correct, the audio of NG HD on Tata Sky has always been faulty and it continues to be that way. The DD 5.1 audio on 'Discover HD World' on the other hand is fine.

I can confirm I am getting true 5.1 Dolby digital through my yamaha avr and voice is outputting only through the centre speakers through coaxial output on Discovery HDWorld...

got mine installed today. Just the hdmi cable to projector, and stereo analog outs to stereo amp.
It may be a placebo effect but I find the quality of SD much better than earlier stb that connected over the yellow single video out wire. This is from 2yr old memory.
Discovery was looking stunning. Nat geo was showing off too much with slow motions. Couldn't spend more than 10 mins as I had to take my mother to the doctor. Will share further impressions later.
When will the HD broadcast of sports channel begin. I got this done for the world cup.

Ok..I connected a yellow RCA cable (video) cable from coaxial of my receiver to STB Coaxial. I get the vocals in center speaker although I dont think this is the same clarity as my HDMI sound from the tata sky HD box earlier. maybe the RCA does not carry the entire sound signals.

Also earlier when I went from other channels to 565 and 567, the display changed from Stereo or Dolby movie and such to DD Digital...but now the display doesnt change when I go from non HD channel to HD channel..so I guess the RCA is not the right way to go about...have to adjust till I get an optical cable.

Anyone know where the cheapest place to get optical cable?

You need to use a digital coax or an optical cable. Std. RCA cannot carry DD5.1 signals.
