It IS an issue with STB as its not sending DD5.1 audio through HDMI! You sound like defending TS as you have the option to use Coaxial :) Its a no brainer to understand why should we be using the coaxial output when HDMI is designed to carry virtually all audio formats and we are arguing why AVR is not accepting coax audio when using HDMI (it may or may not be supported by certain AVRs).

TV's HDMI input usually accept audio ONLY through HDMI (except for PC centric DVI-HDMI which has an audio input).

I think you are missing the pt. In this case, the poster is getting sound from the TV, which means he is pushing sound from the AVR which in most should be a setting to switch HDMI audio off as the sound should be sent from AVR to the speakers and not TV. So you shouldn't have to mute the TV.

I completely agree dear... Hope you got my point as well... Poster should not have been compelled to do the exercise we are suggesting as a WORKAROUND only. As HDMI was supposed to carry DD5.1 otherwise without any tweaking.
 
I am trying to get DD5.1 output from my Onkyo HTS 3300 using the new TS DVR. so far no matter what i try, it is stubbornly saying PCM PLII.

As other members have already suggested, i am using an optical cable to carry Audio and not HDMI.

here are two major connection setups i have tried.

1. LCD(Bravia NX 500) <---HDMI--> AVR <---HDMI & OPTICAL------> TS

2. LCD <--HDMI--> TS <--OPTICAL--> AVR

I have tried various configuraiton options in my Onlkyop setup based on the manual. But no luck so far.

I have tried setting ARC -> OFF, Audio TV Out -> Off
In Digital Audio, i have set OPT2 to BD/DVD (also tried teh same for TV/CD)

Can someone please suggest what should i try? Not sure what i am doing wrong.....
 
This might be obvious, but what channels are you testing the DD output with? DD works only with the real HD channels. I would suggest using either NGC HD or Discovery HD to do the tests.

I would at first try out the second option where the TS+HD box is connected to the LCD TV with a HDMI cable and to the AVR with a optical or coax cable.

To get the box to output DD streams, go to Organizer/User Settings/Sound Settings and set preferred audio to "Dolby"

Once you have this setup working, then look at connecting both the HDMI and the optical/coax output to your AVR and then set the AVR to accept audio from the optical/coax input.

i was indeed testing in non HD channels, good catch.. but i am getting the same result for HD channels as well.

TS is set for Dolby Audio already.

Tonight i will disconect the whole setup and will start from the beginning. I have my previous cable STB also connected. may be it is also interfering..

I do not think that your previous STB's analog cables should be causing an issue. I have the TS+HD box connected to my AVR using the analog rca audio, digital coax spdif, analog composite and hdmi cables to 2 different inputs. But when I select the analog input set, i do not get any audio.

Hi,
I am new member of HiFiVision. Thanks to Tata Sky HD PVR, as all it started with the complaint about HD+ not supporting 5.1 and 7.1 thru HDMI.

During the course of searching a blog with a similar problem, I got to know about HiFiVision.
 
Is there an online detailed manual which gives the procedure for scheduling a recording? The one that came in the box is useless to say the least.
I guess I will make use of the DVR part tomorrow for the India Pakistan match.

Just use the regular EPG by clicking on Guide > All channels and use the directional keys to navigate to the program you wish to schedule and hit the "R" (record) button and you are set!

Hitting "R" twice will enable "series" link on Star Cricket HD (or any other channel for that matter). Hitting once again will cancel the recording.

Its as simple as that and don't bother looking at the "encrypted" manual :)

Watching the recording - Hit "Plan" >> Recorded, scroll up or down to highlight the program you wish to watch, hit "select" >> Watch/Resume

A few more observations from my side:

- To watch the next recorded program, press the select button on the remote while watching a recorded program and then use the up/down arrow keys to select a program.

- The play and the pause buttons are separete buttons on the remote, but they seem to look like the same button. Took me a bit of time to figure this out initially.

- You can press pause when watching any live tv program. You can then reverse through the replay buffer and go forward. You may need to go through the pause/play routine to get the reverse functionality to work.

- To catch up to live after pausing your program, use forward and then wait for the stb to display a "Catch up to live" prompt.

- Pressing the forward/reverse keys multiple times will change the speed.

- HD channels fast forward & reverse at speeds of 4x, 8x, 16x & 30x. SD channels also can reverse at these speeds. SD channels when fast forwarding can also use a 2x speed mode that is not available with HD channels.

- If you press the forward/reverse key when the system is going forward/reverse at 30x, the program material skips 5 or 10 mins. Check the current playback position on top right to know if you have mistakenly done a skip forward. This again took me by surprise the first few times, till I figured this feature out. This is very useful if you want to skip through songs on a recorded movie ;)

- The box adds a few minutes of padding before and after a recording. This typically works fine, but if you record one program after another on the same channel, while at the same time watching live tv, then sometimes the second program starts from the tail end of the first recording.

- Series link does not always work and it is not very intelligent. It is also not supported for many programs.

- There is a limit of 25 or 30 series that you can use with the series link feature.

- The non plus TS SD box's remote works fine with the TS+ HD DVR. Just that you will not be able to use the DVR functionality from that remote.

I think this should cover most of the basic queries for the DVR portion of the TS+.

The old Tata Sky+ box had the "TV on demand" as the last option in the Guide. However, I wasn't able to find it in the Guide of the new box. TVoD is advertised as a feature on the Tata Sky website. I was just wondering if anyone was successful in finding out where it is, on the new box.

TVoD on Tata Sky+ used to have some nice old comedies like "I Love Lucy". Wanted to watch that on the new box too.

Its under "showcase" menu. Just click on the "showcase" button and you will see Video On Demand menu item. Hope this helps.
