Tata Sky launches Tata Sky+ HD at just Rs. 3999/

TS HD+ Box keeps hanging

I had a TS+, changed to TS HD+ recently.

Ever since I got it, its been hanging every now and then. Anyone else facing the same problem?

Had the same problem.

Call in customer care, they will get it replaced.
It seems a number of HD+ bozes have this hanging issue.
Thats what the technician old me when he came to replace mine.

Of course, you'll lose whatever recordings that you have done.

TEMPORARY HANGING may occur when the Hard Drive is doing some random access especially when it is heavily filled. If that is the case it will be as per design and not much can be done for that.

However if it is permanent hanging (not getting anything even after several minutes), its definitely a STB issue.

I have issues with the Remote of TS+HD which has VERY SOFT KEYS and the key press might not get recognized by the STB at times. Did anyway face this problem? I am told by TS that replacing the remote may help.

Got it replaced with a new one (nice). Seems to be ok now, but will wait & watch....

If it is hanging, just get it replaced, i had the same issue. Soultion was replacement.

cheers

Temporary hanging for 2 to 5 seconds is caused by excessive HDD activity. If you replace, as the HDD on the new box will be empty you would automatically not have that issue till the HDD gets filled on the newer box.

Yesterday when I was watching Set MAX HD , that HD box suddenly started downloading new update and installed successfully . Any idea whats there in the latest update ?

Hi Guys
Do you know how does Tata Sky debit your account?
Here is my story
I ordered TS+ HD last month and was given the grand sport package free for one month.
Now the subscription is ended and i told them to deactivate that package and give me sport pack (240 INR).
I also told them to activate HD gold and english news pack

They told me that HD pack is already activated ---Fair Enough
Now they activated the English news and deducted 20 INR

So my question is this.
how much should i recharge now today.
sports(240)+ HD (50)==290 INR

Should i recharge for this amount? since they have already deducted the money for English News Yesterday.

Thanks

I think you could recharge at ANY amount and it will be deducted as per your calculation on a daily basis.

That is what I have observed from the account statement. They credited Rs.226 for extending my preview period when they inappropriately terminated the connection before 30 days. As per the website, it asks you the amount to be recharged instead of telling us how much to pay. Also, to activate some package, you need to recharge and call CC to get those package not available online like Mega Lite Pack. These indicate that TS can accept any payment for any package on a prorata basis. I believe most of the DTH operators do it that way these days.

I have also been facing a lot of freeze issues with my TS+HD box lately. Waiting to finish watching some of the recorded stuff before i make a complaint. Seems like a common problem with the TS+HD boxes :(

Is it freezing for few seconds or permanently freezing? Do soft cycling of power (instead of taking off the power and restarting) help?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum.

My setup:
---------
Samsung 40C7000
Onkyo HT S3300
Tata Sky + HD : Software version 15th March.
Samsung BD C6900

My experience with Tata sky:
----------------------------
They took one week to install. Initially I was happy with the quality, but did not get DD 5.1 from HD channels over HDMI. I thought there might be something wrong in my setup. Then I read this mail thread and came to know that Tata is stupid enough not to provide DD 5.1 over HDMI !!! That means they are going back to stone age!!!

Then yesterday I bought a Prolink optical cable and connected from TS+HD box to my reciever. Well I was disappointed with the audio quality, there was a visible chillness with each word that came out of speaker!!!

Then I immediately went to panasonic showroom and bought a panasonic optical cable. With panasonic optical cable the audio was proper and I was able to get DD5.1 from HD channels.

But for that I had to connect HDMI straight from TS+HD to my TV and then optical cable from my TS+HD to reciever!!! What a shame!! and utter disregard to the concept of modern AVRs!!

Picture Quality:
---------------
SD is OK.
HD on SMAX IPL is simply stunning! I was highly impressed.

Sound Quality:
--------------
Here with both SD and HD I hear a audible sound skip/slight noise for every 2 minutes. This is irritating me and I'm going to raise a query with TSky.
This issue is there when I use HDMI audio from TS+HD, or when I use optical cable.
This issue is present in both HD and SD channels.
NAT GEO, Star Plus, SMAX DD5.1 audio is fine, but discovery HD audio is very low and seems like there is no life in the audio!

Guys, please confirm me if you also see this issue. Its usually noticeable.

I think TS+HD is the only DTH box that has minimal bugs in the market, so cant think of going to other DTH services.

I'm impressed with the box's ability to continuously run for more than 12 hours and still stay at a respectable temperature.

I echo your thoughts on issues faced on TS+HD. However, I usually don't hear audio dropouts from other than Nat Geo HD channel. Its actually Jitters you get when digital audio gets dropped on its way to your AVR. This might be from TS or from your optical output. However, if HDMI also sees the same drops, its certainly from or beyond TS.

If you have an option to use coaxial digital output, you should NEVER GO for an optical cable and should have saved money and used any SPARE RCA CABLE for digital output! Optical cables are very UNRELIABLE as they have to convert the SAME digital output you get through RCA to Optical and then another conversion at the AVR. Instead any RCA cable (even bad quality which in theory may have some jitters) are FAR SUPERIOR to optical due to additional jitters which may come if optical signals are not reliable through the cable.

You should not have any issue running ANY STB continuously for its lifetime.

Set MAX, Star Plus, Discovery HD all have the SAME issue of converting stereo to very silly CONTINUOUSLY varying 5.1 which fades out rest of the sound almost completely when someone is speaking and usually pans everything through center speaker. Continuously varying sound from each speakers bothers me most and it makes the rest of the sound almost inaudible when someone is speaking!

Thanks prankey.

Hmmm... with my optical cable I'm getting good audio as of now, but facing one issue, whenever I change the channel, I hear a mild click on my sub-woofer. Probably if I use the coaxial cable this will get resolved ?

How about the brand Bandridge for Coaxial cables ? Is it good ?
