Budget Subwoofers from BIC America

I have heard a BIC subwoofer as well as a few other budget subwoofers, save the Astonia (which, indeed appears to excellent VFM). Of all the budget subwoofers that I have heard, I would rate these two Hsu subwoofers (and speakers) the highest.
STF-1 Subwoofer - (8") - for USD 300
STF-2 Subwoofer - (10") - for USD 320

The problem in getting budget subwoofers from the US is that by the time they are delivered, customs and shipping nudges it out of the budget realm, unless of course you can either lug it yourself (and hope to find a bass-crazy custom-wallah on duty) or get a friend/relative to do so.

Therefore, it might actually make more budgetary to go in for that 10" Astonia, provided, of course it sounds as good as Lionel Dsouza of AV MAX says it does. Nothing beats an audition, though. (case in point is that, in purely relative terms, I trust AV MAX reviews more than the ones from What-hifi).

Another thing about the Astonia, it uses proper 'legs' instead of blunt (bakelite like) spikes used in most budget subwoofers. On the face of it, it may work better towards coupling the sub to the floor. Spikes for subwoofers appear to make much less sense to mme, for one.

Also, I am a firm believer in the fact that a well designed and/or coupled subwoofer will not "walk" even after pumping it up. Nevertheless, hearing is believing.

Cheerio

I read that review too & hope to Demo.If its rocks, then it will be the best budget SW in <15k price.

Now that Spiro has his eyes on them, I am really interested in getting this :)

I am looking out for a good sub which would work well for movies along with Pioneers PK22BS and a center. Rear channel duty would be performed by some cheap monoprice speakers (don't want to spend much on rear channels)

I got some space in my shipment from US. I was initially thinking of getting a Def Tech Supercube (Intl Version) which is a small 10-inch cube with 650W peak power.
But now I am trying to see why not get the BIC America F12 badboy as I got room for it.
I am encouraged that some forumers have converted this to accept 240V easily.

Is BIC America F12 Monster too big for the living room 20X15 and too loud for an apartment ?

There is a switch inside it to change the input voltage to 220v but it is purposefully hidden to avoid confusions; since most of them are sold in US. You just have to open the enclosure to gain access to the switch. No other technical tweaking required. This is confirmed by Darshan the other day. The manual explains how to do it.

Hi
Just bought this subwoofer now, partially based on this post. I can however not find any such switch, and certainly no info in the manual. Anyone have any more detail on what I need to do?

Regards

Well,
Firstly is that the same model you bought?
Secondly, did you open the subwoofer to gain access to the inside of the amp plate?

Hm... Good point about it being the same speaker. Reading bakck now I'm not even sure which one it was originally referred to. I have the PL-200.

Yes I've opened the back plate, the power cables go straight to the board (through a fuse) and the only thing I can find is that there are some jumpers on the power board, but nothing that indicates voltage as far as I can see.
Thanks.

Can you post a Picture of PCB?

Most BiC subwoofers can be switched from 110v to 220v. Atleast V1220 and F12 can be done.

I had someone the detailed method to do it but i cant find it in my sent box.

Can you post some pictures of the back plate.

Ha, found it

Having a friend look over the circut board we suddenly understood the markers. Moving the jumpers from their outer to their inner positions did the trick. The jumpers were however partially glued in their position, so it was a little bit fiddly.

Thanks for all your help.

alfheim, can you please tell where the jumpers are located? Or give a photo? I've got PL-200 improrted from the US and as far as I live in Ukraine we have 220V here and I'd prefer switching the sub if possible instead of purchasing the step down transformer, which is around $150.

Thanks!

I'm too struggling with 110v. Could you please help me to switch the voltage to 220v?

Thanks!
