Finally my continuum kit has arrived

I have built one on MDf 17 years back it is still holding good .Yes the sensitivity is low but as per the gurus it is one of Jeff's best designs. My rooms are pretty small so driving them will not be a problem .I plan to use Shaan's VSSA amplifier with Rod elliot hifi preamp (Project 97).

I have been using good quality MDF for the last 15 years and personally I am quite happy with it and will continue using it

+1 to that though I have been very happy with the usage of Jackfruit tree wood for speaker cabinets. It lasts a life time and has a finish like that of teak. It's bit pricey as the wood is little bit behind teak regarding price.

Another option is to use Mango tree wood.

I might get jackfruit tree timber in kolkata, is it hardwood ?I was thinking of using Sesame wood which is hardwood.I think the main criteria is the box should not have a sound signature and it should be dead solid without any resonance.Since the box is pretty small so I think I can get away using wood what is your take ?

I don't know if it comes under 'hardwood' but it is 'hard':). The -ive side is that you don't get to buy it in 6'/4' sheets. For a decent sized box, more than one piece of wood plank must be used for just one side of the enclosure.

Only a good carpenter can join the wood planks without any gap or the box can be covered with sheets of plywood to seal any gaps. I have a speaker box which is almost 2' long and 12" in diameter.

It used to house two 8" woofers on opposite sides. Box was filled with glass wool and had internal bracing with the same wood (built like a cage and the planks nailed on to it). The bass was amazing (sealed design).

The box is 20+ years old and housed YP woofers with white cones and rubber surround (used by my bro in his med colg hostel). Woofers are long gone and the box serves as a pooja table:p

your bracing looks quite different, the brace behind the front panel is different and it looks like you dont have braces that are perpendicular to the front panel. stick to the design for optimum sonics.

Thanks for your encouragement .The build was really a nice exercise .It does not have the boominess of the normal bass reflex that we have grown so used to .The unique property of this speaker is its wonderful voicing, it dissapears in the soundfield.Reminds me of the 70's smoothness.
I have built it fully from scrap wood and it is entirely hand built .I am really lucky to have a really skilled carpenter
Thanks and regards
