And the guys selling @ this price are absolute F@#k heads , no one wud buy a PJ before a proper research and any one paying 1.28lakhs for a product worth 999$ , think again u cud source 2 of them-------and still save some cash----absolutely ridiculous !!!!!

They have some ridiculously sick pairing of some spkrs and amps ----the heights was when i saw a Jamo HTspkr package costing abt 28k being paired with an 1.5lakh Cyrus amp----blunderous shit!!!

Looks like the shutdown problem continues with firmware 3.0 too.. Please check this link -
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=17709970#post17709970

though they are unable to replicate, there seems to be a problem for sure... a problem that cannot be replicated and more dangerous.

Mits appreared in top 10 sold list in ProjectorPeople.com last week when it was at a discount of $150. Now that discount is still continuing, but, it is out of the top 10 list..

I'm leaning towards Pana 4000 or some other model now...

Need to decide by this Friday:eek:hyeah:

if u have the budget for pana 4000 then go for it..
anytime it beats the mits 3800 in terms of pq / plament flex / blacks-contrast and has scores of other features..

saw the vivi 1080fd review from art.. it is rated even below hd20..that leaves only 3800 in that price category

reminds me of the gizmo program the other day on tv.. u know the one in which they make the consumer over of the high end gadgets/stuff available..
they had a representative from denon.. and were speaking very highly of the DHT390, as if it was the best speaker package ever..
true it beats the crappy 5.1 systems in the low budget category..but then in the end the price offer they showed was ridiculous - 40k
my folks looked at me stangely when i started laughing suddenly while they were showing the payment options..

Finally ordered Pana PT AE 4000U:yahoo: My cousin in the US ordered it for me. he will be getting it some time next week.. He will test it thouroughly before he will get it to India in January.... I should be getting it in another month or so...

My room will be ready only by Feb or so:sad:

Hey subhash! -

slightly off topic to the thread..

The real problem with What Hifi is that they take the Uk review and just cut/paste india prices on them.

while all reviews are subjective (esp. ones without measureable results) what hifi rating are based on price as well, i.e if 2 products are exactly the same in terms of performance / features; the one that is cheaper will get a better rating.

In India, the problem is that vendors apply varying markups.. (increase in price over uk /us prices (for eg.. polk audio; onkyo seem to have lower mark ups; while Yamaha, Monitor Audio; all projector vendors have very high mark ups) . this should logically change the ratings in India depending on whether it is sold on a higher or lower mark up.

but of course, what hifi? India does not ever bother... and cuts-pastes stupidly..

for eg - in a recent review of blu-rays.. they said that the samsung player is the cheapest of the lot in the body text and gave it a 4 star rating, however, the price they listed was 25k (approx) making it one of the most expensive on the test.

unfortunately the other audio magazines are even worse and so there are limited options..

cheers

I am interested in buying a hd 65, but the Indian prices are ridiculous, spending 60k for a hd 65 with a free lamp is of no use, when it is available at half the pricei n US.

If anyone is planning to source the same, do let me know.

get in touch with prakash_ajp, he has recently imported HD65, though he is not regular on the forum.. check his post here
http://www.hifivision.com/home-theatre-projectors-screens/5405-importing-makes-sense.html

as suggested by subhash you should be looking at HD20 or the HD66(3d capable)
if you are a fan of optoma

Well HD 20 is costing $2000 SGP, just spoke to couple of sellers there.

HD 65 no one has in ready stock there.

Panasonic ax 200 is costin $1685 SGP

so finally my quest for HT projector is complete..
i got the Mitsubishi HC3800 setup yesterday at my place..
decision took a lot of time as there were many factors to consider with this model..
first one being 120" screen throw with a 8' - which after following several posts on avsforums i found would be possible with a 5-10 degree tilt or minor keystone correction.
second the most important of all was the shutdown issues that were found in the initial lot of the models..
for this i had to really follow up with the mitsubishi people for about 2 months.. to actually get hold of the lot which had no issues.. i was provided the model serial number by the company which then was given to the authirized dealer at the time of purchase..
so after getting it, i had to get it mounted at exactly 7'8" which was no easy job.. had to get the mount modified by cutting it by 8" and welding it.

so after mounting at about 14' 6" from screen and at 7'8" from the floor with keystone correction 1 i was able to get a 125" screen which looked fine..

for now i have my DVD player connected, which send a 480p to the prj (the upcaling option is set to auto, and all the other options are disabled  dont know why)

i wont be able to comment on the picture quality right now coz what i have seen in demos are blue rays mostly so cannot compare right now..

here are some pics of the setup.. the DVD is Shaurya with two pics of two scenes.. and 2 of the prj and one of my viewing location.

i couldnt get the time to run through the menu options, maybe i will do that sometime tomorrow night and post that..

a few suggestions here

-using a screen will be better than the wall
-the image seems a bit high,if possible try to get the image a bit lower (eye level) gives a better overall feel

how are u upscaling , is the dvdp directly hooked or thro AVR ?
also do comment on the 2 aspect modes (16:9 and 2.35:1 )
The projected image from the DVDP looks very good so theres going to be a major difference when u hook up a BDP

thanks n regards

ya.. for a screen i would be looking for VFM 120" and with some gain.. as the portion reflected from the hotspot looks brighter and better than the other image..
hopefully with the screen there are no hotspot issues..

actually for 120" this the best i can manage.. otherwise the screen is blocked the floorstanders, this one is 2.35:1 so seems a little higher, for other modes looks ok..

dvd player is directly hooked for the moment.. no upscaling.. as the upscaling options are disabled in menu..

i have not tried the anamorphic mode, maybe will try that tonight..

Jayad a small doubt here , if the projected image u are saying is 2.35:1 that means its anamorphic right? so i suppose the 3800 supports both 2.35:1 and 16:9 images ??

your projected image does look wider than 16:9

does this mean u cud get the 2.35:1 image without the use of an external lens, --------if so, its great

hope its not too many questions asked :)

i m happy to answer them all :)
for 2:35 mode default it shows the same ways as many of the LCDs show.. with the black bars on the bottom and top.. only that with complete blackness these bars are not noticable that much..
the anamorphic lens would be required if you want to remove the black bars and stretch the image sideways too..but i dont see the worth spending about $1k just over that.. the image that i see in 2:35 default is satisfactory enough..

the anamorphic mode would just actually strech the 2:35 and make it look like 16:9, but i would rather keep the 2:35, which looks more cinematic

Congrats jayad08, Did you make use of the free lamp offer on the mits, most stores in the US are having one now! How much did it cost?
