After joining this group recently, I had started a thread asking for advice on 42/46/47 LCD/Plasma TVs. I had got some useful feedback on the models available in the market, some of the good dealers/distributors in Bangalore etc.
Following that, I visited a few showrooms and tried to gather as much information possible on various brands and models (that I thought were good) and their approximate prices. Here is a summary:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brand Model screen size/type Price (range) My summary on the model
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sony W550 40/ LCD 85-90 k Good PQ, over-priced in terms features, readily available
Sony W550 46/ LCD 105-110 k Good PQ, over-priced in terms features, readily available
Samsung UA40B6000 40/ LED 84-90 k Very good PQ, great looks and features, can play almost all audio/video formats

Samsung UA46B6000 46/ LED 100-105 k Very good PQ, great looks and features, can play almost all audio/video formats
(including mkv) from USB flash/ HDD, readily available in all stores
Samsung UA46B7000 46/ LED 100-105 k Very good PQ, great looks and features, can play almost all audio/video formats
(including mkv) from USB flash/ HDD, over-priced compared to B6000 for the additional features (AN connectivity & Internet TV), available in select stores
Samsung LA46B650 46/ LCD 85-90 k Very good PQ (though not as good as LED series), lack some good to have features
but overall a very good TV, not easily available in market
LG 42LH90QR 42/ LED 68-73 k Very good PQ (close to Sam LEDs), average looks but great features, can play almost
all audio/video formats (but not mkv) from USB flash/ HDD, very few available in some
select stores (Croma, Reliance Digital, LG Best Shoppe)
LG 47LH90QR 47/ LED 80-90 k Very good PQ (close to Sam LEDs), average looks but great features, can play almost
all audio/video formats (but not mkv) from USB flash/ HDD , execelllent VFM model
but NOT available anywhere
Panasonic TH-P42G10 42/ Plasma 64-68 k Good PQ (not great for SD but very good for HD), reasonably priced, available in
select stores only
Panasonic TH-P50V10D 50/ Plasma 128-138 k Excellent PQ (good for SD and excellent for HD), slightly over-priced, available in select
stores only, undoubtedly the best available 50 plasma currently available in India,
power consumption (530 W) can be an issue for some users
Panasonic TH-50PY850D 50/ Plasma 115-125 k Excellent PQ (good for SD and excellent for HD), though contrast levels slightly lower
than V10, decently priced, though not a new (2009) model, still a very good buy, available
in select stores only, power consumption (530 W) can be an issue for some users
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are in Bangalore and want to buy a Plasma, Modern World (Domlur) is a very good place. As I found out they are one of the very few places (in Bangalore) who actually promote Panasonic plasmas and keep stock of all the new/popular Panasonic models.
Myself (80k budget) and my friend (1.25 L budget) have zeroed down on the below models:
Myself: LG 42LH90QR vs. Samsung UA40B6000 vs. Panasonic TH-P42G10
My friend: Samsung UA46B6000 vs. Panasonic TH-P50V10D vs. Panasonic TH-50PY850D
Can anyone with knowledge/experience on these models enlighten us on what would be the best choice in the above 2 category?
